Integrated Solar Water Treatment Plants for Green Building
ABSTRACT :
In the present building construction practice, the treated water is borrowed externally from the sources located at distant places. Lot of energy is wasted in transportation and treatment of this water to convert it for potable and non-potable uses for green buildings.
Many attempts are being made for wastewater recycling in green buildings. However, the conversion of available water for potable purpose within the building at low cost is yet a problem which is unanswered, as lot of costly water treatment equipments on advanced water treatment techniques like reverse osmosis, UV radiation, etc. are being promoted in the construction industry which have high initial cost as well as their maintenance cost is also very high.
This paper reveals an alternative design solution on GREEN principles to ascertain the possibility of making use of roof for constructing integrated solar water treatment plants for green buildings by using solar energy which will have low-cost, low maintenance and a simple technique to destroy pathogenic microorganisms using inherent properties in solar radiations to serve the purpose of improving pathogen proof properties of drinking water.
